Interacting with Wabanaki-Maine History

  • Blue Hill Public Library 5 Parker Point Road Blue Hill, ME, 04614 United States (map)

The Blue Hill Public Library, First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, Blue Hill Historical Society, St. Brendan the Navigator Episcopal Church, and the Jonathan Fisher House will co-sponsor an educational program from Wabanaki REACH, “Interacting with Wabanaki-Maine History,” on Sunday, September 7 from 12:30-2:30 PM in the Adelaide Pearson Room at the Blue Hill Library. Registration for the event opens to the public on Friday, August 8.

This program is an interactive experience, engaging in a story of particular events in the history of 400 years of colonization of Wabanaki people by Europeans in this territory now called the state of Maine. This highly engaging experience requires our full participation in order to genuinely increase our understanding of colonization and what it means for current descendants and future generations; to reflect on what story we are writing for our grandchildren.

Participants in the program are invited to move around on a room-sized map as the narrative of historical events is read aloud, providing an experiential lens to the information. Support is provided throughout for processing difficult subject matter. This program is appropriate for adults and older teenagers.

This program is offered free of charge thanks to the co-sponsoring organizations, but space is limited and early registration is recommended to ensure a place at the event. Participants can register on the library’s online calendar or by calling the library at (207) 374-5515, beginning on August 8.
