Fisher House Board Meeting

Note: Duane DeJoy offered to clean the Fisher Paintings, politely thank him for his offer.

•          Farnsworth has staff for this purpose.

Minutes

•          Minutes approved as revised - with Brad contacting Helen Fisher at the Farnsworth.

•          Next summer Farnsworth doing print making exhibit in Maine - with Jonathan Fisher

 

President’s Report

EBay losses and wins

•          James Arsenault won the auctions.  He is a major bidder on historic papers in Maine.

•          He bought these for resale

•          They will be on sale in a few weeks.  We may have first refusal.

 

Brad suggests a press release for that which we won.

We might be able to display the photographs at the library.

 

Manager’s report

Joyce will work through September 17th

On June 13th - 20 members of the Society of Architectural Historians will tour the Fisher House

 

Joyce found a number of interesting items in the files.

•          Account of family illness

•          Records on receipt of the Fisher books

Use of postcards - can they be converted to note cards

 

Reforming the gift shop - Brad and Carol will look into fixing it up

•          Need more copies of the View of Blue Hill

•          Need to get reprints of the map on the museum wall - might find out who printed it.

•          Brad is working on a project for a large interpretive backdrop

 

Maintenance

•          Roofing and public relations

•          October 1, 2005 Joyce inviting a radio station come to the Fisher House when the roof is replaced.

•          The radio station broadcasts from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM - KISS

•          Radio station looking for advertising to pay for their time here and help to promote the roofing contractors

•          food for volunteers

•          volunteer projects - banking house, lawn care, painting, storm windows, pruning, trash in the garden, front prospect, scraping and painting

 

Might use the front entrance on some tours

 

Board nominations

•          Karen Wyatt - daughter of Ellen Anthony

o     excellent choice for the board. 

o     Professional career working with the Smithsonian. 

o     Lives in Mclean, VA.  Planning to move to Blue Hill in a couple years.

 

Autumn Volunteers

•          Mary Spooner

•          Susan Staples

•          School Tours - Joyce has contacted the schools, but has not heard back

 

Annual Meeting

•          Amey asked whether we could use the historic part of the house for refreshments. 

•          The board decided to fix up the kitchen area rather than bring food into the history area.

•          Need: Scones, Apple Butter

 

Membership

•          need to update the database

•          also need to update the annual appeal list

 

Fundraising

•          Will send annual appeal in the October or early November

•          De-accessioning the historic items that are not Fisher items
